Tom Marx

 

Tom Marx is the President and CEO of The Marx Group, a full service marketing communications company that provides Business Development, Marketing Strategy and Marketing Communications services to the Automotive and Heavy Duty Aftermarket. The Marx Group is headquartered in San Rafael, CA, and has staff in New York, Chicago and Toledo.

 

Tom brings his clients the benefit of 25 years of marketing experience in the Aftermarket, as well as industries including motorsports, hardware & software, telecommunications, broadcast, real estate, financial services, and resort property management. His comprehensive experience in lead generation, direct mail, public relations and almost every discipline of marketing and advertising has enabled him to support his clients with highly strategic marketing planning and the implementation of marketing programs that create breakthrough results for their businesses. 

 

Tom supports his clients with innovative processes such as Contract With Sales™ and The Cartridge Marketing Model™, which are highlighted in his recently published book Marketing Sucks! (And Sales, Too!). This work is designed to shape the culture of an enterprise toward improved internal and external communications, enhancing the collaboration among Sales, Marketing and other teams, while improving internal and external communications. 

 

Tom’s career in the automotive industry started at the age of 17, when he founded his first business selling racing components by mail order. For many years, he was a professional racing driver in SCCA, IMSA and FIA. After graduating from the School of Journalism at Cal State University at Northridge, he went into marketing communications, relocating his business in 1997 to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he currently resides. He is an avid sportsman, active in snow and water skiing, hiking, camping and golf.

 

Tom has been an active member of the AAIA Marketing Communications and Member Relations Committee for over five years. He is currently vice chair of this committee, president of the Automotive Communications Council, and serves on several other Boards of Directors.
